GoogleMapは便利です、ある程度目星をつけることができるから。
そのGoogleMapで見た石灯籠を見に行くために、国東半島の東側へ。
「こんなに春日灯籠が並んでいるということは、何か手がかりなのか？」
そう思ったのですが、残念ながらこの石灯籠が作られた時代は昭和50年代と新しいものでした。
私が求めている古い時代のものではありませんでした。
ここまで来たのに空振りかと思っていたら、神社内に人が現れたので「すみません、この石灯籠は昭和に建てられたようですが、元々この形の石灯籠が、ずっと昔からここにあったということは？」とお尋ねしてみました。
すると「一番詳しいのは神職さんだから」と、宮司さんのお宅まで案内していただきました。
その宮司さんご夫婦に親切に対応していただき、この辺りの春日燈籠は、近隣の業者さんに頼める形のものであったから、特に意味は無かったということが分かりました。やはり空振り。
それで宮司さんに近くで行われていたという賀茂神社の摂社である住吉神社の祭りについてお話を伺っていたら、「あなたが知りたい時代のこと、ちょうど私が本に書いていました」と宮司さんの著書を見せていただきました。
「字が無い時代でも、神社も古墳もあったんですよ」といって見せていただいたその本こそ、私が知りたい時代の本でした。
「その本、購入させてください」と言ったら大変驚かれていましたが、その本を受け取ることができました。
本の名前は「宇佐神と安岐郷奈多宮」。

帰宅してから、かつて訪れたことがある奈多八幡宮の元宮司さんであることに気付きました。
